Your Dependent’s Benefits
You can purchase life insurance on your dependents through the South Carolina State insurance program and the Horry County Schools’ optional group insurance program. If you chose either/both options, your coverage is as listed in your statement.
Monthly Benefits
Your family could also receive monthly Social Security benefits in the event of your death, depending on the ages and number of your eligible dependents. If you have been a member of the South Carolina Retirement Systems for at least 15 years, your beneficiary(ies) may elect to receive a monthly benefit from the South Carolina Retirement Systems in lieu of the lump sum return of your contributions.
