2012 Best High SchoolsAynor and Socastee high schools ranked among South Carolina’s best by U.S. News and World Report

The 2012 rankings of America’s Best High Schools show two Horry County high schools among the best in South Carolina. Only 16 of the state’s 224 high schools earned gold or silver medals in this national review. Aynor High School is listed at #8 and Socastee High School is at #16.

In the most recent U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools rankings, two South Carolina schools received gold medals, 14 received silver medals, and 28 received bronze medals. To be eligible for a state ranking, a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal. Both Aynor and Socastee high schools earned silver medals. Four bronze medals were awarded to four other HCS high schools. They are: Carolina Forest High School, Conway High School, Green Sea Floyds High School and Myrtle Beach High School. Read more.


National HIstory DayHCS students win state awards, will compete nationally in National History Day event

Horry County students brought home six first and second place awards from the South Carolina National History Day (NHD) Competition held in Columbia on April 26, earning them the honor to compete at the National History Competition held in College Park at the University of Maryland on June 10-14. Third place state-level winners are considered alternates and may advance to national competition if a first or second place winner is unable to compete. Read more.


Jonathan FoxFox named Technology Champion
Jonathan Wayne Fox of the Academy for Technology and Academics (ATA) and Loris High School (LHS) has been named the 2012 Waccamaw Region Technology Champion. He will be recognized and awarded a $500 savings bond at this year’s Education and Business Summit on June 24 in Greeneville. For ten years, South Carolina’s most exemplary career and technology students have been recognized at this annual event. Read more.
